PARK HUNT DATES:
Oct. 6-9, 13-16, Nov.17-20, Dec. 1-4, Jan 4-8
The interior areas of the park will close at 5pm the day before the first day of the hunt and will reopen at 2pm on the last day of the hunt.
Day Entrance for the interior will not be available in advance around the beginning and end of public hunts.
The following dates are walk up only:
For Oct. 12 Nov. 16, Nov. 30, and Jan. 4, you can enter at 8am, but you must vacate the park by 5pm.
Oct. 9, Oct. 16, Nov. 20, Dec. 4, and Jan. 8, you cannot enter the park before 2pm.
All sites and trails accessible from Sauceda will be closed during the hunts. Sites and trails on the river corridor remain open.
May 14, 2025 - The interior of the park will be closed October 1 - October 5 for wildlife management activities. River corridor areas such as boat ramps and trails, as well as and Fort Leaton and Barton Warnock Center, remain open during this time.
December 10, 2024 - The Sauceda Bunkhouse is closed until further notice due to a wastewater issue.
January 1, 2023 - The Sauceda Ranger Station is open 9:00am to 5:00pm Sunday through Friday and 10:00am to 3:00pm Saturdays. Limited services are available.
• All day-use, bunkhouse, and camping reservations must check in at Fort Leaton State Historic Site (FLSHS) or the Barton Warnock Visitor Center (BWVC) – DETAILED PARK MAPS ARE ONLY AVAILABLE AT FLSHS AND BWVC.
• Please call Fort Leaton State Historic Site (432-229-3613) or Barton Warnock Visitor Center (432-424-3327) with any questions.
• Souvenirs and concessions are only available at Fort Leaton or Barton Warnock.
• Sales at Sauceda are limited to Exploration Maps and toilet systems. Credit or debit card only, no cash.
• Showers, restrooms, and ice are available 24/7.
January 8, 2023 - The main park road to the Sauceda Ranger Station is open to all vehicles. The road east of Sauceda is accessible by 2WD high clearance vehicles. The Road to Nowhere and Lower Shutup trailhead are closed until further notice. All roads are rugged and unpaved. Be prepared.
During the rainy season (May - September) we recommend contacting the Barton Warnock Visitor Center for updates on road conditions before visiting the park.
All roads in the interior of the park are unpaved. The Main Park Road is in good condition and is navigable by most vehicles. Conditions change with rain so always call ahead for the latest road conditions.
