Big Bend Ranch State Park, TX

PARK HUNT DATES:
Oct. 5-8, 12-15, Nov.22-25, Dec. 7-10, 14-17
The interior areas of the park will close at 5pm the day before the first day of the hunt and will reopen at 2pm on the last day of the hunt.

Day Entrance for the interior will not be available in advance around the beginning and end of public hunts.
The following dates are walk up only:
For Oct. 4, Oct. 11, Nov. 21, Dec. 6, and Dec. 13, you can enter at 8am, but you must vacate the park by 5pm.
Oct. 8, Oct. 15, Nov. 25, Dec. 10, and Dec. 17, you cannot enter the park before 2pm.

All sites and trails accessible from Sauceda will be closed during the hunts. River corridor areas such as boat ramps and trails, as well as and Fort Leaton and Barton Warnock Center, will remain open during this time.

December 10, 2024 - The Sauceda Bunkhouse is closed until further notice due to a wastewater issue.

January 1, 2023 - The Sauceda Ranger Station is open 9:00am to 5:00pm Sunday through Friday and 10:00am to 3:00pm Saturdays. Limited services are available.
• All day-use, bunkhouse, and camping reservations must check in at Fort Leaton State Historic Site (FLSHS) or the Barton Warnock Visitor Center (BWVC) – DETAILED PARK MAPS ARE ONLY AVAILABLE AT FLSHS AND BWVC.
• Please call Fort Leaton State Historic Site (432-229-3613) or Barton Warnock Visitor Center (432-424-3327) with any questions.

• Souvenirs and concessions are only available at Fort Leaton or Barton Warnock.
• Sales at Sauceda are limited to Exploration Maps and toilet systems. Credit or debit card only, no cash.
• Showers, restrooms, and ice are available 24/7.

January 8, 2023 - The main park road to the Sauceda Ranger Station is open to all vehicles. The road east of Sauceda is accessible by 2WD high clearance vehicles. The Road to Nowhere and Lower Shutup trailhead are closed until further notice. All roads are rugged and unpaved. Be prepared.

During the rainy season (May - September) we recommend contacting the Barton Warnock Visitor Center for updates on road conditions before visiting the park.

All roads in the interior of the park are unpaved. The Main Park Road is in good condition and is navigable by most vehicles. Conditions change with rain so always call ahead for the latest road conditions.

DAILY VISITATION FEES: Daily visitation fees are in addition to Campsite or Day Use Facility fees.

POTENTIAL COST SAVER: All State Parks charge a daily visitation fee in addition to facility & camping fees. Before you check in at the park, ask if you can save by purchasing a Texas State Park Pass. There are no refunds for passes and no extensions regardless of weather or park closures.
EXCESS VEHICLE FEES: An excess vehicle fee will be charged for all vehicles over the limit of 2 per site.

CHECK IN: All campers are required to check in at the park headquarters before occupying a site.

PETS: Big Bend Ranch, a vast and wild area, is different from other Texas parks. If you bring your dog, please pay special attention to the Park's policy on dogs to ensure a perfect visit for you & other visitors, & at the same time, safeguard the park and all its resources. Dogs are only allowed to be a ¼ mile from campsites or designated roads. The trails that dogs are allowed on are the Closed Canyon and Hoodoos Trail on FM 170. Dogs are not allowed on any other trails, in the backcountry, or in any buildings, including the Big House & Bunkhouse at Sauceda Headquarters. Keep your dog on a leash no longer than 6 ft & all droppings should immediately be picked up with a bag and properly disposed of in a trash receptacle.

HORSES: For Parks that allow horses - All horses entering the park, must have a negative Coggins test less than 12 months old.

ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES: Public consumption or display of an alcoholic beverage is prohibited.
FIREWOOD: Gathering of firewood is prohibited.

WILDLIFE: Feeding of wildlife is prohibited.

Visitors can check in at Ft. Leaton State Historic Site, the Barton Warnock Visitor Center, or the Sauceda Ranger Station. The Sauceda Ranger Station is open from 8am to 6pm. Fort Leaton State Historic Site and the Barton Warnock Visitor Centers are open 8am to 4:30pm.

If you have a site along the River Corridor, proceed to your campground and select a site. Check in at a Ranger station the following morning to let them know you arrived and/or to make additional reservations.

If you arrive in the park interior after dark and you do not know where your site is, you may overnight at Botella Junction and visit a ranger station the following morning.

Orientation maps are available 24/7 outside of each BBRSP ranger station. Always orient yourself before heading out.

Late arrivals with Sauceda campsite reservations in the Main part of the park should stop in at the Barton Warnock Center or Fort Leaton by 4:30pm to check into your campsite. or After hours you will have camp at the Botella Junction, an overflow area, for one night and to come back to the Sauceda Ranger Station the next morning by 9am. Restrooms available.

FOR BUNKHOUSE
All reservations for the bunkhouse must check in at the Sauceda Ranger Station. Late arrivals can tent camp at Botella Junction and proceed to Sauceda Ranger Station the next morning or choose a bunk that is not occupied and check in the following morning.
