April 10, 2026 - Trail Alerts: Several trails have been affected by recent heavy rains.
* The equestrian trails at the South Sulphur Unit are partially closed due to storm damage at the Finley Creek crossing.
* Lonesome Dove Loop, Rabbit run, and Pioneer Pass are inaccessible and closed.
* Little Bluestem remains open for hikers and equestrian users, but access may vary depending on weather conditions. Please call the park for further information.
September 11, 2025 - Due to low lake levels the Honey Creek boat ramp at the South Sulphur unit is closed. The boat ramps at South Sulphur in Gulls Bluff, Tira Satellite boat ramp, and Doctors Creek at Lone Pine remain open.
January 23, 2026 - The Sunset Cove Day-use Area is closed through late spring 2026. Construction will be underway on a replacement fishing pier and other upgrades.
May 10, 2024 - The walkway to the floating dock in the Heron Harbor Day Use area at the South Sulphur Unit has been damaged and removed. The floating dock is no longer accessible at this time. Fishing access from the wall is still open.
Equestrian trails may close due to wet weather or poor conditions. Please contact the park prior to arrival for current information.
When traveling to either the Cooper State Park Doctors Creek Unit or South Sulphur Unit, please check the Texas Department of Transportation's website or call 1-800-452-9292 for road closures as State Highway 71 (SH71) often closes when it rains.
The Sunset Cove and Eagle Point piers are closed due to flood damage.
