Cooper State Park South Sulphur, TX

August 27, 2026 - The South Sulphur Unit is under a burn ban. No wood fires are allowed. You may cook with charcoal on a grill (in safe, clear and supervised areas) and containerized fuel stoves.

July 30, 2026 - Phones are down at the South Sulphur unit.

July 17, 2026 - The Sunset Cove Day-use Area is closed through summer 2026. Construction is underway on a replacement fishing pier and other upgrades.

PARK HUNT DATES:
Dec. 5-20
The Coyote Run hiking trail will close at 10pm the night before the first day of the hunt and will reopen at 8am the day after the hunt ends.

Jan. 9-10
The entire park will be closed from 10pm the night before the first day of the hunt and will reopen at 8am the day after the hunt ends.

September 11, 2025 - Due to low lake levels the Honey Creek boat ramp at the South Sulphur unit is closed. The boat ramps at South Sulphur in Gulls Bluff, Tira Satellite boat ramp, and Doctors Creek at Lone Pine remain open.

Equestrian trails may close due to wet weather or poor conditions. Please contact the park prior to arrival for current information.

When traveling to either the Cooper State Park Doctors Creek Unit or South Sulphur Unit, please check the Texas Department of Transportation's website or call 1-800-452-9292 for road closures as State Highway 71 (SH71) often closes when it rains.

The Sunset Cove and Eagle Point piers are closed due to flood damage.

There is no gate; no gate code is necessary for entry.

Day Use Areas close at 10 p.m. Contact the park prior to 5pm for Day Use late arrival instructions. A list of fees and instructions for the Self-Pay process are posted at the Self-Pay Station at the Park Headquarters. Please only use self-pay if you possess correct change. An occupied sites list is posted on the kiosk; it will not reflect any sites occupied after the office closes. You may set up in an unoccupied/unmarked campsite. All customers arriving after-hours must register at the Park Headquarters by 9am the next morning.

FOR SCREENED SHELTER/CABIN:
Cabin assignments will be posted at the Headquarters. The door will be unlocked and the key left inside. All customers arriving after-hours must register at the Park Headquarters by 9am the next morning.
