The park is located on the northern edge of El Paso, in far West Texas. There are four main access points to this park:
- Tom Mays Unit: Take I 10 West following the Rio Grande River to the Canutillo/Trans Mountain Road exit and turn toward the mountains; enter the park 3.5 miles East the Interstate 10.
- McKelligon Canyon: On the east side and from Highway 54, exit on Fred Wilson Road and turn west toward the mountains.
- Smugglers Pass (Ron Coleman Trail): Near the summit of the Trans Mountain Road (Loop 375), which has a parking lot with a trailhead. Head West, up and over the scenic Franklins and find the park entrance 7.5 miles down from the road's summit.
- The fourth main access point is on the Northeast section of the park, at the end of Jon Cunningham Blvd.

Many parks fill to capacity on weekends and holidays. Pre-purchase a day pass and guarantee your entry and parking. Day passes are:- Valid until 10 p.m., unless the park closes earlier.
- Available up to 1 month in advance.
- Not transferrable to another person or park.

Driving Directions
From I-10 take the Canutillo/Trans-Mountain exit, turn toward the mountains, the Tom Mays Unit park entrance is located 3.5 miles East of I-10; or take loop 375/Trans-Mountain Road going West up and over the scenic Franklins and find the park entrance 7.5 miles from the intersection with Hwy 54.Franklin Mountains State Park, TX
