Feb. 1, 2020 – Newman's Bottom parking area is now open. The road to the parking area has changed; the single-lane road narrows in places. Drive slowly and be courteous to other users. Trailers are NOT allowed at the Newman Parking area. Please park only in designated areas.
June 23, 2020; The Lake Somerville SP Trailway is again open for hikers, bikers and horseback riders. The area around Flag Pond, CR 125, CR 140 and the Sandhill are open to all users.
The Trailway is open 2 miles out from the Nails Creek side.
You must possess a current negative Coggins test for your horse. Equestrian parking for the Trailway is permitted at the access gate on CR 125 and CR 140.
Save the Day Passes
Many parks fill to capacity on weekends and holidays. Pre-purchase a day pass and guarantee your entry and parking. Day passes are:- Valid until 10 p.m., unless the park closes earlier.
- Available up to 1 month in advance.
- Not transferrable to another person or park.
- Also sold at the park, if available.
Driving Directions
From Houston:Take US 290 West through Brenham until you reach FM 180. Turn right on FM 180, follow it for 15 miles until it dead ends at the park.
From Austin:
Take US 290 East through Giddings until you reach FM 180. Turn left on FM 180, follow it for 15 miles until it dead ends at the park.
