October 21, 2025 - The park has detected higher than normal nitrate levels in its water system. Infants under 6 months, pregnant women, and people with specific health concerns should plan on bringing water when visiting the park. 
Note: Boiling water does not remove nitrates. 
Prescribed burns are planned during this timeframe (November-April), depending on weather and other factors.  Prescribed fire operations and associated smoke may impact your visit. Some camping areas, lodging facilities, trails, and day-use areas may be closed for public safety. Contact the park to learn how this may affect your stay.
PARK HUNT DATES:
Nov. 14-30
Hunts during these dates will be held away from the main park and will not affect and camping or visitation. During this time the East Pasture and Old Ranch Road Trail will be closed.
Dec. 9-12, 16-19, 26-29
The entire park except for the Trailway will be closed from 4pm the night before the first day of the hunt and will reopen at 2pm on the last day of the hunt.  
Anyone wishing to utilize the Trailway will need to use the self-pay stations to pay entry and overnight site fees. The Caprock Canyons Trailway is located outside the main park with the closest access from the park is located 3 miles south of Caprock Canyons at the town of Quitaque.  
All roads to the park and in the park are all-weather roads with paved surfaces. Unpaved roads outside of Caprock Canyons can be very muddy and slippery after periods of excessive rainfall. We recommend not driving on those roads until they dry.
