Caprock Canyons State Park and Trailway, TX

February 17, 2026 - Burn ban in effect until further notice. No ground fires allowed. Charcoal in covered grills or containerized fuel with an on/off switch in covered grills are allowed and must be monitored at all times. Check back for updates.

October 21, 2025 - The park has detected higher than normal nitrate levels in its water system. Infants under 6 months, pregnant women, and people with specific health concerns should plan on bringing water when visiting the park.
Note: Boiling water does not remove nitrates.

All roads to the park and in the park are all-weather roads with paved surfaces. Unpaved roads outside of Caprock Canyons can be very muddy and slippery after periods of excessive rainfall. We recommend not driving on those roads until they dry.

There is no gate; no gate code is necessary for entry.

Customers arriving after hours must use the self-pay station located at the Park Headquarters. Fill out the envelope properly and make the appropriate payment for one night's fees before proceeding to an available site. If park signage indicates that the park is NOT full, sites for campers without a reservation are first-come first-serve and are only guaranteed night of arrival. All overnight customers must register at the Park Headquarters by 9am the next morning.
