August 5, 2026 - The park is within an infested zone for the new world screwworm. For the safety of animals and to prevent the spread of this dangerous pest:
- Horses must be inspected before leaving the park. Please call park headquarters at (325) 949-4757 at least 24 hours before your visit to ask about TAHC requirements and schedule an inspection.
- If bringing pets into park, use caution and inspect daily for cuts, wounds, and signs of infestation.
If you see animals with unusual wounds or maggots, do not move them. Let someone know where you saw them:
- For pets/livestock: Contact park staff or the Animal Health Commission at (737) 900-7455.
- For wildlife: Contact park staff or call (512) 389-4505.
PARK HUNT DATES:
Oct. 23-25, Nov. 20-22
All trails South of the Burkett Trailhead and the Isabel Harte and Red Arroyo Camping Areas will close at 5pm the day before the first day of the hunt and will reopen at 8am the day after the hunt ends.
Nov. 3-5, Dec 1-3
All trails North of the Burkett Trailhead and the North Concho and Riverbend Camping Areas will close at 5pm the day before the first day of the hunt and will reopen at 2pm the day the hunt ends.
Jan. 12-14
All trails north and west of the Red Arroyo Camping Area, and Isabel Harte, North Concho, and Riverbend Camping Areas will close at 5pm the day before the first day of the hunt and will reopen at 2pm the day the hunt ends.
December 4, 2025 - Lower Ghost Camp Trail is closed due to flood damage. Observe closure signs for your safety.
April 3, 2026 - The park is replacing several drinking fountains with updated, accessible water bottle fill stations. Drinking water may be unavailable at trailheads during this project. Please use caution around construction areas and comply with posted signs and fencing.
