Description: For further information about this park, Click hereImportant Information: DAY USE FEE:Day Use Fees are not collected at this site. No Camping. The Trail is open 365 days a year; Sunrise to 5pm Pets are not allowed at the park. BAT VIEWING: Every person coming to the park after 5 pm needs a permit. This includes children of all ages. Children of any age can be at the upper viewing area. Children must be at least 4 years old to go to the lower area. Each person is required to prepurchase a tour ticket for bat viewing at Old Tunnel State Park. You may do so online (here) or by calling the Customer Service Center at 512 389 8900. The Park cannot conduct any transactions onsite. If you do not have a permit, you will not be allowed in the park after 5 p.m. Bats can be viewed from either the upper or lower viewing areas during the months of May through October. The upper area is open every night of the week and the lower area is only open on Thursday through Sunday evenings. Seating and Admission There are a limited number of permits for both the upper and lower viewing areas. Children must be at least 4 years old to go to the lower viewing area. Getting There: From San Antonio:Take I 10 West to Exit 524 in Comfort, driving on Business Route US 87. Make a right on FM 473. Continue on FM 473 to Old 9 Rd (continue driving straight). Continue for 8 miles on Old 9 Rd/Old 9 Hwy, which changes to Old San Antonio Rd. Park is on the east side of the road, adjacent to Alamo Rd. From Austin: Take US 290 West towards Johnson City and Fredericksburg. Turn left at Cain City Rd. before entering Fredericksburg. Make a right on Luckenbach-Cain City Rd. Make a left on Old San Antonio Rd. Park is on the east side of the road, adjacent to Alamo Rd. |
