Each person is required to prepurchase a tour ticket for bat viewing at Old Tunnel State Park. You may do so online (here) or by calling the Customer Service Center at 512 389 8900. You do not need to print out your permit, but please be prepared to display your permit information on your phone when you arrive. Although the permit reads 5 p.m., this does not mean you must arrive at the park at 5 p.m. Please check the Old Tunnel Facebook Page or Twitter Account to find out what time the bats are emerging, so you will know when to arrive at the park.
Lower area bat viewing includes a close-up view of the bat emergence and an educational program that covers the history of the area and the bats. Programs usually begin about one hour before the earliest posted bat emergence.
Sometimes bats do not emerge before it is too dark to see and/or sometimes weather conditions will cause the bats not to emerge. There are no refunds or rainchecks for bat viewing permits.
